NEW Year's celebrations might leave your bins left filled to the brim, but with the day falling on a weekend it might mean your collection date has changed.
Even if you are a keen recycler, the likelihood is there will be lots of waste, especially if you live in a large household.
This isn’t helped by the fact we all lose track of time over the festive season, with some even forgetting when bin day is.
Here are the New Year bin collection dates and information for Southampton City Council, New Forest District Council and Eastleigh Borough Council.
SOUTHAMPTON
An important note before we dive into the information, bins should be placed at the edge of your property before 6.30am.
Glass rounds are scheduled as normal but may be cancelled at short notice due to a national driver shortage.
There will be no collections on New Year’s Day (January 1), nor will there be collections on Sunday, January 2.
Usual collections will then continue on Bank Holiday Monday (January 3) and Tuesday, January 4.
Garden waste collections will be suspended the week commencing Monday, December 27 2021 and will start again on Monday, January 10 2022.
NEW FOREST
Black rubbish sacks and clear recycling sacks are due to be collected on Monday, January 3.
Glass box will be collected on Saturday, January 8.
There will be no garden waste collections until Friday, January 7 2022.
All other collections remain unchanged.
Residents can check their recycling and rubbish collection days here: newforest.gov.uk/findyourcollection
Garden waste customers can view the latest information for the service, including their next scheduled date for collection, at newforest.gov.uk/gardenwaste
EASTLEIGH
The council has a useful tool on its website which allows you to find your bin collection dates for the Christmas period by using your postcode.
This can be done here https://www.eastleigh.gov.uk/waste-bins-and-recycling/collection-dates
On collection days, your bin must be left at the kerbside/highway boundary by 6.30am on the day of your collection and be visible for collection crews.
