THEIR youngest son is finally home.

After nearly two months in a hospital isolation room, Luke Hartley has returned home to Romsey.

Now, after four years of fighting a life-threatening genetic condition that affected all four Hartley boys, the family can see an end to their battle.

Luke, who will celebrate his eighth birthday on Friday, spent Christmas and New Year in London's Great Ormond Street Hospital recovering from a bone marrow transplant. He was allowed home on Sunday.

Dad David Hartley said: "Luke is full of beans, he is extremely well. Coming home has given him a real lift.

"He feels better in himself just for coming home and getting back on his mum's food. To have the freedom of the house and garden is fabulous for him."

It was the second bone marrow transplant Luke has undergone to cure him of X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome (XLP), which leaves sufferers with no immunity to illnesses such as glandular fever and cancer of the blood.

Luke underwent a failed transplant, with his brother Nathan the donor, last summer.
