AIR QUALITY may play an important role in future developments within the New Forest.

The council's environment and sustainability overview and scrutiny panel will consider the proposed draft of 'supplementary planning document on air quality' in new development on Thursday, January 13.

Multiple concerns have been raised regarding the impact poor air quality has on the environment and people's health.

Concerns include the increase in vehicles on the roads and industrial developments.

The draft document sets out an approach to air quality in new development, including the type of air quality assessment required to assess the impact of development on local air quality, in terms of health and natural areas, such as parks.

To make development acceptable the council will expect mitigation measures to be implemented by the applicant to reduce emissions to air from all proposed development.
