The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice in Hampshire for tonight.

The national weather forecaster has said to expect icy surfaces from Friday (January 7) evening and overnight.

The yellow warning is expected to last until around midnight tonight affecting northern areas of Hampshire including Winchester, Romsey, Basingstoke and Andover.

There are likely to be some icy patches forming on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths and where these occur, an increased likelihood of accidents or injuries.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Icy surfaces are possible for a time on Friday evening and overnight, leading to potentially tricky conditions."

However, temperatures are set to rise again from the early hours of Saturday.

What to expect from the yellow ice warning

The Met Office said to expect the following:

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
