A COLLEGE student is bidding become the country's next top diver after qualifying for a major international tournament.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College's Robbie Lee, was due to jet off to Kiev, Ukraine last month to represent Team GB at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships.

The first year qualified for the event after placing second in both the individual and synchronised dives at the Junior Elite Championships, held in Plymouth in October.

And although the tournament was later cancelled due to concerns around Covid-19, Robbie says he still has high sights set on the Olympics, World Championships, and Commonwealth Games in the future.

He said: "It feels really good to represent my country but also like there’s a big responsibility to perform well. I’m excited to see what the future brings."

A former pupil at The King's School in Fair Oak, Robbie has been diving for eight years and also represents Southampton Diving Academy under coach and former Olympian Lindsey Fisher.

At Barton Peveril, Robbie Lee benefits from the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) that helps him balance his promising athletic career with his studies.

He was due to represent Team GB in the 10 metre platform diving competition.
