A SOUTHAMPTON radio station has celebrated it's 16th anniversary in an online event.

Unity 101 held its 16th Anniversary Awards and Achievement Event at the Novotel Hotel, on Friday, January 7.

The event was held and livestreamed online for people to view at home, with Zoom interaction.

Project and Station Manager from Unity 101 Community Radio said: “Challenging times requires out of the box thinking.

"The team of technicians and volunteers pulled a remarkable event together in a very short amount of time.

"I salute each and every one of them and hopefully next year we can all celebrate and talk in person instead of through a screen.”

The event celebrated the achievements and highlights of Unity 101 Community Radio over 2021, including events such as Derby Run, Hands of Love, Eastleigh Mela Festival, Unity 101 FC, and the announcement of the upcoming celebration for Her Majesty, The Queen’s, Platinum Jubilee.

The event recognized volunteers for their 10 years of service for Unity 101, and awarded exemplary students from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College and Oasis Academy Mayfield.

The Apprenticeship Award was also presented by Kiwi Education to a notable learner.

Solent University also bestowed the Engaging Communities Award to notable individuals within the community.

The event also had recorded and livestreamed entertainment from Southampton Music Hub featuring Hollybrook Junior School produced by Larry Kazingzi, a live solo performance from Jonathan the Jester, and a virtual performance by Award Winning Brit-Asian artist, Navin Kundra.

The food was also provided by Sanjha Catering, where guests drove to the hotel to collect their takeaway food for them to eat at home and in a socially distanced setting while enjoying a free three course Indian meal while watching the livestream and interacting on Zoom.
