TEN Southampton neighbourhoods now sit in the highest possible category for their Covid case rate.

Just under a third of the city's 31 districts are marked black on the Government map, as more than 1,600 per 10,000 residents have tested positive for the virus.

These are: Aldermoor and Lordswood; Bitterne South; Coxford and Lordshill; Harefield; Itchen; Shirley Warren; Sholing West; Thornhill; Townhill Park; and Woolston.

In the seven days to January 6, 26 of these districts reported an increase in case numbers when compared to the previous week.
