A MAN from Southampton has died after colliding with two cars as he attempted to cross the A31 in the New Forest.

Police were called to the A31 eastbound at 6.43pm on Friday evening, January 14, to reports that a silver Ford Focus had collided with the central reservation near Hangersley Hill.

The vehicle then continued along the A31 before stopping by the Rufus Stone services, the force said.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, left the vehicle and crossed to the westbound side of the carriageway where he collided with two cars.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have now confirmed to the Echo that the man was from Southampton.

His family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
