A 16-YEAR-old boy was discovered behind the wheel of a car which had cloned number plates – and was arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife.

Police were alerted to the vehicle travelling on cloned plates on the M27 at just before 9am near Romsey today (Saturday).

The driver tried to get away but was stopped by police and taken into custody. The vehicle was also recovered.

A police spokesperson said that the driver was a 16-year-old boy from Surrey. He was arrested on suspicion of committing an act/series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

He remains in police custody.

After the car was stopped, Hampshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted: “This vehicle was travelling on cloned plates on the #M27 near Romsey this morning - driver tried to get away but failed. Now on route to custody & vehicle recovered.”
