POLICE in Hedge End have vowed to crack down on anti-social behaviour at car meets.

On Friday night, the force received multiple reports relating to a car meet in the car park of Marks and Spencer Hedge End.

Residents are said to have complained that multiple cars were racing and speeding on the roads.

They also claimed that cars were doing "donuts" in the car park causing "significant concerns for the safety of other drivers".

Officers attended and spoke to attendees and later said on Facebook that the majority of the meet was "civilised".

Despite this though, one driver was hit with a £100 fixed penalty notice for an illegal number plate.

Taking to Facebook the next day, police said they "will not tolerate this behaviour and will use every tool at our disposal to disrupt those involved."

They added: "We totally accept that some car owners spend alot of time and money on their cars and are very proud of them and like to show them off.

"However, street racing, speeding, damage to the road surface, noise and dangerous driving and causing alarm, distress and intimidating other road users and members of the public is not acceptable.

"I am aware of similar issues currently being targeted by Totton Police where they have used Section 34 dispersal orders. We will consider using these powers should this behaviour continue."
