A FOG warning has been issued for areas across the south including Southampton- with travel disruption expected.

The Met Office has issued an yellow weather warning which will be in force from 7pm this evening, Monday, January 17,  until midday tomorrow, Tuesday, January 18.

Here's what to expect:

  • Slower journey times and possible hazardous driving conditions, with delays to bus and train services also possible
  • There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Areas of fog, some of it dense and freezing, will develop during Monday evening and overnight, persisting into Tuesday morning in places.

"Visibility may dip below 100 metres in some locations.

"Fog will tend to lift into low cloud in many areas on Tuesday, though a few spots may stay foggy into the afternoon."

Prior to the arrival of the fog, Southampton residents can expect a day full of winter sunshine today, with clear skies and highs of 8°C.

There will be a cold start tomorrow as the fog sweeps in, with temperatures expected to reach 4°C from 2am to 8am.

Sunny spells will develop and temperatures will reach a high of 8°C.
