BOGUS police officers got away with more than £800 after burgling four homes in the New Forest within 90 minutes.

The conmen claimed to be plain-clothed policemen and used false identity cards to fool their victims, who included a man in his 90s.

Detectives say the first incident occurred in Spittlefields, Ringwood, when a woman in her 80s answered a knock at the door.

The caller said he was a police officer and told the woman she had been burgled. Another man then entered the property and stole a small amount of cash.

A few minutes later the gang carried out the first of two burglaries at Pundle Green, Bartley.

A woman was watching television when a man entered her kitchen and another intruder gained access to her bedroom. Both men claimed to be police officers and searched the property but nothing was stolen.

Another woman living in Pundle Green was burgled after leaving the house for three hours.

She returned home to discover that cash and travellers' cheques totalling more than £600 had been stolen.

The fourth incident took place at Archers Close, Totton, when a man in his 90s was confronted by three men who claimed to be police officers said they were looking for stolen money.

After they left the pensioner discovered that cash totalling £200 had been taken.
