A SOUTHAMPTON house could be turned into an assisted living children's home should plans be approved by civic chiefs.
Plans have been submitted to Southampton City Council to turn a house on Highfield Lane into a four-bed children's home.
The home will be for up to two children aged between 12-17 years old, the plans state.
The children will be cared for by a staff team.
This will be two staff on shift within the home – they ‘sleep in’ as members of the household, therefore consistently up to four people in total, occupying a four-bedroom home.
There will be no change to the property, with the children and carers living there as a family unit.
The house will not have any signs on, and will not be distinguishable as a children's home.
"Looked after children have the right to live in a family style house," the proposals say.
"The young people are learning to be independent - therefore they are expected to be independent in their travel to school, employment, friends, shopping etc - this means walking or using public transport which reduces the need for staff to use cars."
The plans were submitted earlier this month and are awaiting a decision.
