A SENIOR council official is set to leave her role.

Southampton City Council's Executive Director for Place, Kate Martin is moving to Sheffield City Council.

It comes after it emerged chief executive Sandy Hopkins would also be leaving her role in February.

Ms Martin had been spearheading a scheme to find derelict land in the city for the council to build new houses on.

Speaking on the departure, leader of the council, Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry said: "As a Sheffielder Kate is returning to her home city where she grew up, studied, and where her family still live.

"I would like to put on record my thanks to Kate for all her hard work on behalf of our great city, and wish her all the very best in her new role at Sheffield City Council."
