A MAN was airlifted to hospital after falling off a ladder and injuring his spine.
The casualty was working on a house at Lepe Road, Blackfield, today when he plunged about nine feet and landed on a flat roof.
He is understood to have suffered injuries to his arms, spine and shoulders in the accident.
He was placed on a spinal board and transferred to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with the help of firefighters from Hardley.
The man, thought to be in his fifties, was flown to Southampton General Hospital with what were described as serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said the helicopter landed in a field near the property.
Lepe Road is a rural route that serves the sparsely populated area between Blackfield and Lepe Country Park.
