REGISTRATIONS are now open to audition for Mayflower Theatre's Summer Youth Production for 2022, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.

Dozens of talented local youngsters will appear on stage at the iconic theatre on August 12 and 13 performing in this musical adventure, which features an original rock score.

As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can't control, a destiny he doesn't want, and a mythology textbook's worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus's master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him.

Mayflower Theatre Chief Executive Michael Ockwell told the Daily Echo: “This will now be our ninth Summer Youth Production and it’s the first time we have chosen a new musical so it will offer the cast a slightly different opportunity, which is exciting.

"We are always thrilled by the talented young people who audition, and look forward to seeing many new faces alongside previous participants turning out for the auditions on March 6.

"Our team make the audition process fun and create an atmosphere where everyone can perform to their very best. I encourage anyone to register, come along, meet new friends and discover the pure joy of creating a new show."

Auditions are for young people aged 11 to 18 years and give them the opportunity to work together for two weeks with a professional creative team taking a show from the first read through to final performances.

Registration closes on February 21. Auditions will be held on Sunday March 6 with recall auditions on Sunday March 20.
