A NEW American-style restaurant is looking to open on Above Bar Street in Southampton this spring.

Blue's Smokehouse is seeking a premises licence from the city council, hoping to bring big platters of flow 'n' slow brisket, burgers, pulled pork, and more to the city.

The popular American BBQ restaurant, with venues in Newbury and Bracknell, is expected to create jobs in Southampton, this April.

Gareth Wright, managing director of Engage Convert, which looks after the Blues, said: "We are really excited to come to a big city like Southampton.

"Blue's is going to be a place where you roll up your sleeves and get stuck into a menu full of American house favourites.

"We are looking forward to serving the locals, students, tourists, and Saints fans."

The restaurant has promised to serve the customers with delicious classics that are smoked in-house over hickory wood, giving out authentic flavours.

While the restaurant specialises in meat dishes, it does provide food options for vegans.

The owners plan to stock the bar with American bourbon, cocktails, and craft beers such as Siren, Tutt's Clump, cider, and Inn At Home.

If the licence is approved, the restaurant will be taking over the building that was previously occupied by The Stable, a pizza restaurant, and will be open for trading from 8am until 12.30am.

In an Instagram post Stable wrote: "Well, the time has come for us to move on from our lovely home in Southampton. We’re delighted to be handing over to the amazing Blue’s Smokehouse. Massive thanks to all our brilliant customers, it really has been a pleasure.

However, Blue's is not the only restaurant on Above Bar Street that is waiting to open. Kaspa's and Gin and Olive are two other restaurants that have yet to open their doors.

If launched, Southampton will be home to three brand new dining each with its own flavour and experience.
