MARWELL Zoo has unveiled the latest new species to join its wildlife park - a collection of towering dinosaurs made using more than two million toy bricks.
Over 9,000 hours were spent building 55 prehistoric creatures which have started to arrive at the zoo before the BRICKOSAURS! Evolution launch next month.
Professional builders from Bricklive International crafted a seven metre-long Spinosaurus, a nodding Heterodontosaurus and a huge Mosasaur emerging from the water, amongst many more.
Sean Mannie, Marwell Zoo’s Commercial Director, said: "It’s wonderful to see the Brickosaurs begin to arrive and the finishing touches take shape.
"Everyone who has been involved in bringing BRICKOSAURS! Evolution to life has truly gone above and beyond into creating this spectacular event and we’re counting down the weeks until we can showcase them to our guests.
"It will be a chance to step back in time and come face-to-face with more than 20 species on an immersive and educational adventure through our beautiful 140 acre park."
Building a Brickosaur: The Process
To build a Brickosaur, a creative meeting takes place to decide on the species and the exact pose to ensure the design will pass health and safety checks.
Designers then create a 3D digital model featuring the toy bricks and colours using computer sculpting software.
Teams of between two and seven then build each sculpture around stainless steel frames to ensure structural integrity and safety, gluing together one brick at a time.
BRICKOSAURS! Evolution is included with general admission to the zoo and is on display from April 1 until September 4 2022.
