AN INVESTIGATION into yobs who threw a bottle of water at a giraffe in Marwell Zoo is 'ongoing' more than a year after the break-in.

Hampshire police said officers had 'no specific update' for the public after the February incident that saw three men arrested.

Police previously revealed a woman was intercepted in a vehicle leaving the zoo on February 15, 2021 at around 11.40pm. The men were passengers inside.

At the time of the incident, Fareham police on Facebook said: “Three males in their early 20s from Gosport are in police custody on suspicion of burglary following reports that intruders had broken into Marwell Zoo (causing damage to the zoo premises) and were throwing things at the animals.

“Multiple police units were deployed to the incident, including police ARV officers, a dog unit and a helicopter.

“A fourth individual, a 21-year-old female, was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting the suspects, after police intercepted her vehicle trying to leave the area with the males on board.”

Staff branded the incident 'appalling'. Today police admitted they have no further updates – with no-one charged.
