POLICE investigating an arson attack on the home of Chris Packham have issued images of a man and a car they want to trace.
The arsonists are thought to have used two vehicles - a Land Rover Discovery that had been stolen from Marchwood and a Mitsubishi Shogun bought in Somerset a few hours earlier.
Police say the two vehicles made their way in convoy to Mr Packham's home at Ipley, near Marchwood.
At around 12.30am on October 8 the Land Rover was set ablaze outside the property, damaging the broadcaster's front gate and a tree.
Now police have released CCTV images of the Mitsubishi Shogun and a man they want to speak to about the incident.
Detective Inspector Howard Broadribb, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: “The investigation is still ongoing at this time and our officers are continuing to follow-up relevant lines of enquiry.
“We now know that at around 11pm on Thursday 7 October, a Land Rover Discovery was stolen from an address in Marchwood and made its way to an address in Ipley, along with a Mitsubishi Shogun which had been purchased earlier that day in Somerset.
“At around 12.30am the Land Rover discovery is seen ablaze.
“We want to identify anyone who may have seen a Mitsubish Shogun being transported on a Ford Transit low-loader between Somerset and Southampton – carrying the number plate BU06 HDY – on October 7."
Police are particularly anxious to hear from anyone who can describe the driver and can say if there were passengers in the vehicle.
Officers also want to identify a man who was seen filling up the Mitsubishi Shogun at a petrol station forecourt at Castle Lane West, Bournemouth, at around 7pm on October 7.
Detective Inspector Broadribb added: “Any information you may have, no matter how small or insignificant you believe it to be, could prove vital to our investigation and allow us to recover either or both the low-loader and the Mitsubishi Shogun."
Anyone with information can call Hampshire police on 101 quoting crime reference number 44210403698, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
