Fans of Netflix's smash hit Bridgerton will know Luke Thompson as the charming aspiring artist Benedict Bridgerton.

The Regency romance is set to return to our screens very soon with the focus shifting to the eldest Bridgerton brother Anthony and some exciting new faces.

However, you might also recognise the Southampton-born actor from other major shows and productions over the years.

Here's everything you need to know about the Bridgerton heartthrob ahead of the period drama's return.

Who is Luke Thompson?

Luke Thompson was born in Southampton on 4 July 1988 which makes him 33 years old.

Thompson later moved to France when he was 2 years old and now speaks fluent French.

He went to a French school in Fontainebleau and when he returned to the UK, he did a year with the Year Out Drama Company in Stratford-upon-Avon before studying an English and Drama degree at the University of Bristol.

Thompson went on to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, graduating in 2013, before launching his acting career.

Who does Luke Thompson play in Bridgerton?

Luke Thompson plays the second eldest son Benedict Bridgerton in the popular period drama. 

Benedict is an aspiring artist that hopes that one day his skills with a pencil will become a full-fledged career.

He was nominated at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2021 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in Bridgerton's first instalment. 

Julia Quinn's third book - and presumably the show's third series - An Offer from a Gentleman centres on Benedict's love life so we have plenty more Luke to look forward to!

What else has Luke Thompson starred in?

If you've been sleeping on Bridgerton, you might recognise Luke Thompson from elsewhere.

The 33-year-old starred alongside Tom Hardy and Harry Styles as Warrant Officer in Dunkirk and is known for playing Connor in Netflix and Channel 4 series Kiss Me First and Simon in the BBC One series In The Club.

The Southampton-born actor also played the British politician Peter Hain in the British comedy-drama film Misbehaviour, appearing opposite Keira Knightly.

He also has impressive theatre credentials, starring in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare's Globe with the legendary Sir Ian McKellen.

Is Luke Thompson on social media?

Afraid not, Luke Thompson has a very private life and doesn't have any social media accounts.

Fans shouldn't despair though because we'll be reunited with the actor very soon as the show drops on March 25.

Bridgerton series two will be available to stream on Netflix from March 25, 2022.
