IT WAS a glorious morning for it.

Thousands headed to Hampshire from all across the UK and as far away as Guernsey today for the Eastleigh 10k.

The popular event, which is now in its 37th year, saw almost 3,000 people head onto the streets of the town, with the event kicking off at 9am.

As well as this, 300 children took part in the fun run after that event also sold out.

Those from Guernsey were eager to participate as it was their first race away from the island since lockdown.

Organiser Steve Collins said: "It went very well. I know that other races elsewhere earlier in the year were a little disappointing but we were sold out by the end of February.

"It was ideal running weather and I know a lot of people set a new PB. We are known as a fast course so that wasn't a surprise.

"We were so glad to be back."

The 2020 event was moved to 2021 due to the pandemic.

Temporary road closures in Eastleigh have now been lifted, with traffic beginning to ease.

  • Alex Lawrence from Victoria Park Harriers & Tower Hamlets AC won the event in 29m28s.
  • Sarah Astin from Belgrave Harriers was the fastest woman at 33m18s.
