A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and assaulting a police officer after a driver crashed into a motorway barrier. 

Police say they were made aware of the incident at around 8pm last night when they recieved reports of a vehicle driving erratically near Eastleigh

A Ford Fiesta was stopped by officers on the southbound carriageway of the M3 at junction 12.

In a tweet from a Hampshire Roads Policing Unit's Twitter account, it was claimed that the vehicle had collided with the central barrier. 

It was then said that the driver continued at speeds of up to 130mph.

After stopping the car, it was found that a bald tyre space saver had been fitted according to officers who also said a 6-year-old child was on board.

The driver is then alleged to have kicked an officer in the process of being arrested.

Now a 30-year-old man from Fawley has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

He remains in custody at this time.
