A MAN in his 40s has suffered head injuries after two cars and a lorry crashed on the M27 westbound this morning.

Hampshire police said the person was hurt in the 7.21am crash that happened between Junctions 9 and 8.

Earlier traffic managers said all lanes were shut - but police have since said three out of four lanes were closed.

A statement said: "We were called at 7.21am to a report of a collision involving three vehicles - two cars and a lorry - on the M27 westbound between junctions 9 and 8.

"One person has reported a head injury and is being treated.

"Three of the four lanes were closed while we responded. The road has since been re-opened."

A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: "We sent to the scene a paramedic team leader and an ambulance crew.

"They were assessing three patients, just one patient was treated at the scene by the crew for serious injuries.

"Following treatment at the scene the patient was taken to University Hospital Southampton."

The incident happened between Junction 9 for Park Gate and Junction 8 for Bursledon.
