A STAFF member at a town college has walked more than 300,000 steps in a month to help support those with cancer.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College's Sharon Callaghan walked 310,000 steps throughout March.

The catering and retail assistant took on the challenge to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research UK.

The charity has challenged its fundraisers across the country to take 10,000 steps a day in March.

To complete the challenge, Sharon varied her role at the college, working in different cafes around campus so she could get her steps in whilst working.

She said: "Lots of us donate to good causes and I saw the advert on TV and thought 'I can do that!'.

"I’ve found some of it a bit challenging but I've persisted for the good cause and I’m actually enjoying it with the good weather - more so than I thought."

The Barton Peveril staff member also took on longer walks in the evenings and at the weekend to get her step count to the 10,000 mark each day.
