A SOUTHAMPTON care home has been praised by watchdogs following it's latest inspection.

Oak Lodge Care Home on Freemantle Common Road has been given an overall 'good' rating by the CQC.

The most recent inspection took place on February 7 and was published on March 30.

There were 62 people living at Oak Lodge Care Home at the time of the inspection.

A visit took place after the CQC received "specific concerns" about the service regarding staffing levels, support people received with eating and drinking and maintenance of the home.

Inspectors found that the provider had "experienced significant staffing challenges" in the pandemic but the registered manager had put measures in place to promote staff recruitment, retention and wellbeing in response.

Inspectors said that there were enough staff at the home to meet people's needs.

"Staff were very attentive and knew people well," the report said.

"Staff told us that they were very busy in their role but worked to ensure this did not negatively impact on the care people received.

"There were effective systems in place to oversee the maintenance and safety of the service."
