A CARE home could be turned into a nine-bed house of multiple occupations (HMO) after plans were submitted to civic chiefs.

Plans have been submitted to Southampton City Council to turn the home on Cobbett Road into a nine-bed HMO.

Cobbett Road Ltd and Precious Caring Ltd put in the plans for the two-storey building.

The planning documents said: "As the costs of running a care home increased, both in terms of wages etc, together with the need to comply with modern standards, the care home was found to be too small to remain viable leading to its eventual closure."

The building previously housed a 13-bed care home with two parking spaces.

Despite the planned increase in those living in the building, there are no plans for additional parking spaces.

A decision is yet to be made on the proposals.
