THE Duchess of Cornwall has been appointed president of the New Forest Show, which is returning this year after a Covid-related absence.

Organisers have confirmed that the three-day spectacular - which boasts an average attendance of 85,000 - will be staged at New Park, Brockenhurst, on July 26-28.

But they are unable to say if the Duchess will visit the show as her diary for July has yet to be finalised.

The show has a different president every year. Previous holders of the office include Sophie, Duchess of Wessex.

This year's main attraction will be the equine stars of TV shows such Poldark, Victoria and Peaky Blinders.

The animals are trained by Atkinson Action Horses, which wowed spectators at the 2018 New Forest Show with riders performing a raft of gravity-defying stunts.

The attraction is run by the New Forest Agricultural Show Society, founded in 1920.

A spokesperson said this year's event would include activities for all the family, including baking at the Fun Kitchen, a dog show and floral art.

They added: "The show will also welcome over 3,000 animals and 400 shopping stands.

"The Atkinson Action Horses fearless team of stunt riders will wow with their astonishing display of tricks in the main ring."

Other events will include the Pony Club Mounted Games, the Heavy Horse Musical Drive and the Grand Parade of Livestock.

"New for 2022, the NFU Mutual Farming Experience Zone will teach visitors about farming through interactive activities and expert talks on farm diversification.

"It will be the place to go to learn about farming, enjoy kids farming fun and get to know more about local Young Farmer Groups."

Denis Dooley, the show's chief executive, added: "We are delighted to announce the return of our much-loved Show.

"It is going to be amazing, and we have so many new activities for visitors to enjoy.

"Our focus is interactive educational activities where the whole family can get involved and have a fantastic day here at New Park Farm.

"The Show is loved by so many, and both our incredible staff and amazing volunteers are working day in day out to make this year the best ever."

Chairman Martin Stewart said: "We’re thrilled to be going ahead with this year’s show. It will be three years since the last one and we can’t wait to welcome you all back in July.

"The show is a true celebration of New Forest life. With many activities to participate in there is plenty of family fun and education to be had."
