A SOUTHAMPTON mum has written a children's book after being inspired by her daughter.

A valuation manager by day and an author by night, Chelsea Barrett has seen her adventure book Ottilie and Roue published.

The 34-year-old was inspired by her four-year-old daughter Rome to put her hand to something new and challenging.

Chelsea said: “When I had Rome, she meant the world to me, so I wanted to write a children’s book for her.

“I wanted to set myself a really difficult challenge and to show Rome that when you put your mind to something, you can accomplish anything.”

Chelsea was keen to convey an important message in her book, one her own daughter, she hopes, will remember.

She said: “Ottilie and Roue is an adventure book about two best friends and has the message that as long as you have got someone by your side and stick together, you can accomplish anything and overcome obstacles.

“Writing this book is all about the message behind it, for me.

“I have had some tough times recently and I wanted to write about how if people support one another, you can do anything.

“Rome has been my inspiration behind writing the book.”

Chelsea has already sold 100 copies and many have been purchased from Amazon too.

Plus, she hopes to distribute them in hospitals and nurseries in the future.

Chelsea said: “People have been leaving beautiful reviews. It makes it all worthwhile.

“I am just a normal, working girl and I have worked really hard on this.
