THE QUEEN’S Platinum Jubilee is fast approaching and city residents are set to celebrate with street parties.

Bunting will be hung and cakes baked ahead of the celebratory long weekend in June.

Southampton City Council has received 26 successful applications for closures ahead of the weekend, with some applications still rolling in.

Here are the current road closures:

  • Canada Road
  • Cedar Avenue
  • Chapel Crescent
  • Chatsworth Road
  • Chaucer Road
  • Cobden Gardens
  • Greville Road
  • Hanley Road
  • Juniper Road
  • Kellett Road
  • Luccombe Road
  • Oakmount Avenue
  • Pentire Avenue
  • Priory Road
  • Prunus Close
  • Radway Road
  • Red Hill Crescent
  • Redhill Close
  • Ruby Road
  • Shanklin Road
  • Vulcan Road

Street parties are also taking place elsewhere in the city.

Further afield, West End Parish Council is hosting a Jubilee picnic at Hatch Grange on June 2.

Attendees can expect a variety of entertainment and fun throughout the evening, which starts at 6pm.

There will be a barbecue run by St James’ Church, a range of community stalls, bouncy castles, and other activities, fancy dress, performances from St James’ Choir and the official lighting of the Beacon on Hatch Grange.

The Junction Inn in Priory Road is hosting a special party in the beer garden for the entire Jubilee weekend.

There will be live music, a barbecue, bouncy castle, face painting and guest ales. 

Those looking to apply for a road closure for a Jubilee party must do so by April 20.
