A LECTURER at a Hampshire college has taken home a national catering award.

Hospitality chef lecturer at Eastleigh College, Greg Cheeseman, won the Catering College trophy in the Public Sector Catering Awards.

It comes as the college's Hair and Beauty team was further nominated in the Hampshire Education Awards.

And three students have successfully reached the grand final of the Young Restaurant Team of the Year competition.

The college chef saw off competition from Edinburgh College and Cambridge Regional College to claim the Catering College crown.

The award recognises the work of individuals or teams in supporting learners and delivering outstanding results.

Industry professionals from across the country were in attendance, with veteran broadcaster Jeremy Vine presenting Greg with his award.

Greg said: “I am delighted to have won the Catering College Award. It has been a challenging year for the Hospitality industry but this recognition is testament to the incredible resilience and team spirit of the Eastleigh College Hospitality department, and caps off what has so far been an amazing awards season for us”.

The Hampshire Education Awards are in their fifth year and celebrate the contributions of staff and volunteers in the education system.

The Hair and Beauty Team are nominated in the Teaching and Learning Award category while Greg Cheeseman is nominated in the Futures Award category.

The results of both nominations will be announced at the ceremony at the Great Hall in Winchester on July 4.
