A TELEPHONE mast at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac is set to be replaced.

Residents of Tate Road in Redbridge will soon see workmen taking down the existing pole that sits next to the railway.

It is due to be replaced with a new structure that will stand at the same height, 22.5m, after Southampton City Council approved an application from Cornerstone.

The mast will feature six antennas and two microwave dishes.

Equipment in the existing cabinet will also be replaced.

In its application, Cornerstone said: “The scale, massing and height of proposed development have been considered in relation to that of adjoining buildings; the topography, the general pattern of heights in the area; and views, vistas, and landmarks.

“The local pattern of streets and spaces, building traditions, materials and ecology all help to determine the character and identity of the development.”

Vodafone will be the service provider.
