A COUNCILLOR is calling for a 120-home scheme to be rejected – branding the plans as “purely speculative”.

Vistry Group Plc has lodged an application to Fareham Borough Council to build the properties in Wallington.

The proposed site covers 5.6 hectares and next to Pinks Hill to the west and the A27 to the east and south.

Tory councillor for the Fareham East ward, Tom Davies, said: “Local residents will be aware that I raised my strong objections to this proposal a couple of months ago.

“Please rest assured I will be objecting to planning permission being granted, and I would urge everyone to get their comments in to the council too.

“I have no doubt local residents will make their feelings known against this unsuitable development.”

The current site is popular with dog walkers, and is less than three miles away from the Welborne Garden Village scheme that will see 6,000 new homes built.

With it will come schools, shops a business park and amenities.

“This area is a poor candidate for a housing site with proximity to the motorway junction, industrial estate and the Suez waste site,” continued Cllr Davies.

“The Vistry Group have not been very honest with their consultation or public relations, with the false statement that the site, 'has been promoted for development over a number of years'.

“This is not true, the site is not in our local plan, or our new local plan and I have already advised them of this. They know full well this site is not allocated for housing.

“I think this application is purely speculative and I fully expect the council to reject these proposals.”

Stephanie Bottin, of East Hill Close, has also objected to the scheme.

In a letter to the council, she said: “Apart from all the usual objections about additional traffic, pressure on local service etc, which usually seem to be ignored I have an additional concern over the natural springs in the area.

“Building works further up the hill to us occurred a few years back, since that time the watercourse changed which has impacted upon our own property.

“One other comment, who do the developers want to sell these properties to - the land is above a busy motorway with all its noise and pollution and on the other side a road not fit for purpose used by commercial lorries.”

A decision on the plans must be made by May 26.
