IT’S the city health and wellbeing store bursting with sustainable, eco-friendly and organic goods.

Gaia Health Store opened just over two months ago in a beautiful 19th Century listed building in Carlton Place, the city centre street which hosts a growing community of quirky, independent stores in a newly pedestrianised area.

It’s the brainchild of husband and wife team André and Emma Moreira, the store’s passionate proprietors.

André told the Daily Echo: “We stock a range of sustainable and eco-friendly organic and natural health foods and household products.

“We have gluten free, no sugar and vegan options, as well as refill options for dried foods and also cleaning and personal care. We also stock a range of wellbeing products like crystals, essential oils, salt lamps and candles too.

“Our personal friendly service makes us stand out, as well as our ability to source products for customers quickly and easily if we do not have it in the shop.

Daily Echo:

“Our merging of health and wellbeing is unique. Traditional health shops often focus on just the nutritional aspect of health. We aim to combine a range of health and wellbeing products in store, along with running events and workshops in our space downstairs in the future to address different aspects of health and wellbeing.”

Gaia Health Store is also listed on the home delivery apps Uber and Deliveroo as part of André and Emma's mission to reach as many customers as possible who may need assistance with their health and wellbeing.

A website enabling nationwide shipping, click and collect in store and also local contactless delivery is in the planning.

Most of the the fixtures and fittings in the shop have been handmade by André using reclaimed wood, fly tipped and abandoned items and pallet wood. The ladder pictured above was built by community project Men’s Shed.

Gaia also boasts the largest range of plastic free packaged dried food in Southampton. There is a selection of whole dried foods including pasta and rice, a range of teas, organic cold drinks and oat-based products.

A series of weekly buy one get one free offers in store are proving popular, as well as promotions to win products, free product give aways and discounts.
