A SOUTHAMPTON University is inviting students, staff and residents to grill candidates for the upcoming elections.

Solent University will be hosting a live Q&A session ahead of the local elections on May 5.

Participants will be able to question politicians who are vying to represent the Bargate ward during an event at 3.30pm on Tuesday, May 3.

Hosted by the Solent Students’ Union, the hustings will include candidates or representatives from the Local Conservative Party, Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, the Green Party, and the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition.

The event, being held at the union in East Park Terrace, is free and open to all.

Vaios Koukouletsos, Solent Students’ Union President and host, said: “This is a great opportunity for everyone who lives in the Bargate ward area, including our students, our staff and the public, to ask questions and learn more about the influence their vote in the May 2022 Southampton local election will have.

“The topics discussed and debated will cover a range of issues, including those that directly impact our students, so I would like to encourage everyone to attend the event and have your say. We look forward to seeing you there.”
