FORMER England star Paul Gascoigne met with two brothers at a charity football match in honour of their dad.

Taking place for a second year, the game was played on Sunday in memory of Southampton man Paul Prince who died in a scooter crash in June 2020.

Organised by Paul’s two sons, Liam and Ellis Prince, the game saw players their dad had coached over the years, plus friends and family, come together at AFC Totton.

Hundreds attended the event, and among them was ex-England and Tottenham star Gazza.

Having been contacted about the event before, the star stayed during the game and even signed memorabilia to be raffled off in aid of charity.

Ellis said his dad had been a Spurs fan and Gascoigne was one of his “idols”.

“It was really good," he said. "He came down and met all the players and the people watching. He was there for a couple of hours.

“My brother’s a Tottenham fan as well so I’m not sure he wants to do anything with the rest of his life now so he’s happy with it.”

The match comes after last year’s event at Mansel Park in Millbrook raised almost £2,000 for Southampton Doing it For the Kids.

Daily Echo:

It is not yet known how much money was raised this year but it's hoped even more was raised than last year.

A cause hasn’t yet been chosen to give the money to but Ellis said they want to donate to a mental health charity if they can.

Paul Prince died on June 11, 2020 in a crash at the junction of Shirley Road and Waterloo Road in Freemantle.

Daily Echo:

But the brothers now say they want to turn the football match into an annual event to remember their dad.

Ellis said the event was “a positive day from a bit of a rubbish situation”.

“Pretty much all of the family came down for it. We were speaking to the people that were involved and the majority of them want to help out next year to see how big we can get it.

“We're looking at ideas for what we can do make it bigger. It’s something we all want to do as an annual thing.”
