IT’S a micro craft beer and cider pub which also boasts live music, record decks, board games and beer masterclasses.

The Dusty Barrel in Hythe precinct is about to celebrate its first birthday. The venue, in a stripped back industrial / retro setting in Pylewell Road, first opened its doors on May 28 2021, and it’s been a big hit with locals from day one.

Manager Toby Jackson told the Daily Echo: “We have live music every weekend and record decks set up to play your own vinyl.

“We have regular food trucks at the rear of the pub, but encourage people to bring in food, either fish and chips, pizza or whatever takes their fancy, any time.

“We have a large amount of board games to play. We host beer masterclasses where you can learn all about beer and brewing.

“You get a free random fact lesson when using our toilets from the man in the sky. You’d have to go in there to know what I mean!

Daily Echo:

“We have eight keg beers, four cask ales, four ciders, six wines and more spirits than Casper’s attic!”

As well as the ever changing beer line up from some of the UK's best breweries like Vibrant Forest, Mad Squirrel and Beavertown, the variety of events and the unusual novelty toilets, The Dusty Barrel enjoys a lovely drinking terrace at the front of the pub on the waterside town's pedestrianised street.

Punters are also treated to regular comedy nights, open mic nights, quiz nights, record fairs, DJs, open decks and cider festivals.

Daily Echo:

One of the pub’s most memorable moments in its first year of trading came during the celebrated Hythe Raft Race event last summer when all the furniture was removed and replaced with hay bales for a cider and music festival which went down a storm with locals and visitors alike.

A space upstairs can be transformed into a venue suitable for parties, gigs, meetings, wakes, clubs, fitness classes and more.

Beth and Lucy are among the welcoming staff behind the bar of The Dusty Barrel, best known for its great beer and atmospheric live music.

Daily Echo:

“The very best thing is the people who come in,” adds Toby, who has really enjoyed his first year at the helm of the pub.
