A GRASS verge on a Southampton road could become 28 parking spaces.

Southampton City Council has submitted plans to turn an area of land on Yeovile Close into paving and parking.

The land is in front of houses 113-121 and 151-157.

It comes as part of the council's plan to create 1,000 more parking spaces across the city.

Funding of more than £6m has been allocated for the project though this is also under review as the assessment of the possible sites continues.

It is also said that parking could be delivered in three different forms, verge hardening, additional parking bays and/or a full car park being created.

Between now and Spring 2023, the council is due to work with its highway partner, Balfour Beatty to install the spaces.

Sites were identified where vehicles are currently being parked on verges, causing damage to the ground.
