A SOUTHAMPTON resident says he is "sick and tired" of dealing with overflowing bins outside his flat.

Denis Bundy of Conroy Court in Winchester Street says private bins used by businesses in London Road are frequently left outside the entrance to his block of flats, which he manages.

The 76-year-old grandfather, who has lived here for 21 years, said: "I have always been very fond of my city and when I first arrived in London Road it was a joy, I had no issues at all.

"But now I witness absolutely disgraceful behaviour.

"One of the delights of Covid, if there was such a thing, was that all the bins disappeared. Now there are overflowing bins, rubbish on the roads, and rats."

Mr Bundy claims the bins used by Betfred are emptied and then "shoved" in front of his garage and on the road.

He said: "It is just disgusting. The bins block the roads and the pavements.
"I am amazed there hasn't been a bad accident.

"There has been no attempt to clean the back area of this building."

He added: "I want an easy life but I have to deal with this every week."

Betfred has said they will "immediately look into this and rectify the situation."

The council confirmed it received an email from Mr Bundy on May 3.

A spokesperson said: "Our Highways Enforcement partners then spoke to the business responsible and advised them to move their bins back off the footway.

"The business was also sent a letter advising them that their bins were obstructing the highway and to ensure it does not continue to be an issue.

"If the issue continues then enforcement action can be taken if informal interventions fail to resolve the problem.

"If any council bins have been left after emptying and have blocked access then we apologise for this and will monitor the situation."
