MORE than 70 coronavirus patients were in hospital in Southampton last week, figures show.

Data from NHS England has revealed that there were 73 coronavirus patients at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) as of Tuesday last week.

This figure was down from the 92 that had been recorded the previous week.

The number of beds at the hospital occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 44 per cent in the last four weeks.

It comes as 28 days ago, there were 131.

Meanwhile, across England, there were 7,363 people in hospital with Covid as of May 10, with 175 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 54 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 48 per cent.

The figures also show that 57 new Covid patients were admitted to UHS in the week to May 8, down from 61 in the previous seven days.
