MOTORISTS have been urged to plan ahead as large numbers of cruise passengers are expected in Southampton today.

Southampton City Council's highways team posted the warning on social media as a number of ships have docked in the city.

In a tweet, the team said: "High volumes of cruise passengers are expected in the city again today with several cruise ships arriving/departing.

"Please continue to plan any journeys to the waterfront in advance as it will be busy."

Nine cruise ships in total were expected to sail to Southampton this weekend.

On Saturday, the city saw the arrival of Emerald Princess, Iona, Spirit of Adventure and more.

So far today we have welcomed Queen Mary 2, Norwegian Star, and Anthem of the Seas to our docks.

Bolette is also expected to arrive today.
