A GRASS verge in a Southampton street could be turned into 52 car parking spaces.

Plans have been submitted by Southampton City Council to build spaces on verges on Bramshott Road in Weston.

These will be split into bay parking and a car park.

The bay parking will be outside properties 2 to 23 and the car park will be outside properties 26 to 42.

The plans come as part of proposals to create 1,000 new parking spaces in Southampton, which was brought in by the Conservatives after winning control of the council last year.

The new leader of the Labour council, Cllr Satvir Kaur, confirmed the scheme would continue under the new administration last week.

However, some proposals will now be up for review.

The spaces, set to be provided by spring 2023, should be a mix of formal car parks, parking bays and converted road verges.

They would be added to sites already identified by the council.
