Students are also reading “The Queen’s Hat” by Steve Antony which describes how the Queen’s hat blows away in the wind and travels past London landmarks including the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace

Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond visited the school to see their hard work. She told the pupils that she hopes they will be able to come to Parliament soon for a visit and she would be delighted to see them.

“It was a pleasure to visit the school, meet the head Emma Howell and then help the children plant the lovely apple tree,” said Flick.

“I was told the children already eat fruit in the school during the day and now they will be growing their own.

“It will be a beautiful reminder of this jubilee year when young and old celebrated seven remarkable decades the Queen has served her country and Commonwealth.

“She is an outstanding head of state and a much-loved figure here and abroad.

“It is very fitting that trees are being planted all over the country to mark the occasion. They will give pleasure to many in the years to come and be a haven for wildlife too.”

The tree was donated by the Friends of Meonstoke School.
