A MAN who was caught carrying a bamboo baton and a self-defence keychain has been hit with a £1,000 court bill.
Michael Duglas George, 50, was caught with a bamboo baton and a Kubaton - a self-defence keychain - on High Road in Southampton on July 20, 2020.
Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, he pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of two charges of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.
George, of Wimpson Lane, Southampton, was fined £400 and the weapons were seized and destroyed.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £40 and court costs of £620.
