A SOUTHAMPTON boy who took a moped has been hauled before the courts.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age, was caught riding a Piaggo Vespa that was taken without the owner's consent from Colebrook Avenue in Southampton on September 15 last year.

Appearing at Southampton Youth Court, the boy admitted one charge of driving a motor vehicle which had been taken without the owner's consent.

He was ordered to pay compensation of just £200 and was handed a youth rehabilitation requirement.

He was also banned from contacting six people directly or indirectly for 12 months and has been banned from leaving his home address from 6pm to 10am for three months.
