POLICE rushed to a Southampton bridge last night after concerns were raised for a 15-year-old girl.

Officers arrived at Itchen Bridge at 8.05pm on Friday, May 27, after members of the public reported concern for the welfare of a 15-year-old girl in Queensway, Southampton.

The teenager walked to the Itchen Bridge and officers tried to engage with her.

The teenager was detained at 8.45pm under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act for her own safety and was passed on to the care of health services.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 8.05pm yesterday (27 May) by members of the public reporting concern for the welfare of a 15-year-old girl in Queensway, Southampton.

“The girl travelled by foot to Itchen Bridge, where officers tried to engage with her before detaining her at 8.45pm under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act for her own safety.

"She was then passed into the care of health services.”
