FIREFIGHTERS raced to a Southampton school amid concerns of a fire breaking out.

Crews were called to Thornhill Primary School on Byron Road after reports of smoke coming from the school cafeteria's roof.

The incident was reported today at 11am and Hightown and St Mary’s crews were on the scene.

However, following further investigation, the crew discovered that it was steam rather than smoke.

After concluding that it was a false alarm, the crew left the scene at 11.15am.
