A HAMPSHIRE cul-de-sac came together once again to celebrate the Queen's jubilee.

More than 50 residents and family from Amberley Close, North Baddesley, came out to eat food, sip drinks and listen to 60s, 70s and 80s hits on Saturday.

Organised by Mary Bell, the street party had bunting, a balloon arch and a BBQ, with another resident, Tom Gibson "flipping the burgers".

The 48-year-old South African explained how he and his family moved to the UK in 2004 having visited the area two years before.

He said: "The queen exemplifies what makes Britain great. Just class. The best of British. I never understood it when I first came."

Meanwhile, Mary, 72, said this is the seventh street party she has organised in the cul-de-sac and is now even thinking of the next one.

Donning a Union Jack headpiece, she said: "I'm a big royalist. My friends, they did the balloon arch and I put all of the invites through everybody's door.

"I don't care who comes. We all look after each other here. In a cul-de-sac, everybody is so important. They have all had a wonderful time.

"Parties bring everyone together. You've got to be sociable after two and a half years of lockdowns.

"Queen Mary they call me. It's just nice to have young people and older people. My grandson's even come to surprise me."

Mary went on to say that if Charles becomes king, then she will host another street party for the coronation.

Her neighbour, Hillary who prepared some of the food for the event, as well as digging out CDs to provide the party with music, added: "We have both been here quite a while. They all like coming down here. It's safe."
