AIRCRAFT are set to soar over the skies of Southampton in a couple of hours for the final day of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

However, doubts are mounting up over whether or not the Red Arrows' display over Southampton docks will actually go ahead.

Update: Red Arrows flypast cancelled due to lack of visibility

This morning's display in Torbay was called off after organisers reported poor visibility and "extremely" low clouds.

Poor weather conditions have also resulted in the early afternoon display at RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and RAF Chinook being cancelled.

On Twitter, a spokesperson from the English Riviera Airshow, which had been due to feature the Red Arrows, said the forecast is being reviewed "very closely".

However, the schedule is "very likely to change", they said.

After taking off from Exeter, the aircraft are expected to fly over the city's docks at 4.35pm.

The event is one of the highlights of the last day of Jubilee celebrations in the city, with thousands of people expected to watch the air show from the Big Platinum Festival at Mayflower Park.

According to the Met Office forecast for Southampton, there is a 50 per cent chance of rain between 3pm and 5pm. This will go up to 90 per cent later in the afternoon.

A spokesperson from the English Rivera Airshow tweeted: "With regards to the rest of the afternoon's flying schedule, we are constantly reviewing the forecast and working with our teams on the ground at various airports to make a decision as to whether or not our display teams are safe and able to fly.

"The schedule is very likely to change from what has been advertised and we will keep you constantly updated on our channels so please keep your eyes peeled."
