HUNDREDS of people turned out to one of the biggest street parties in the area on Sunday.

More than 400 people attended the Jubilee street party at Archery Grove, Woolston on the last day of the celebrations.

With two bands playing, food, and an array of activities for attendees of all ages, the party filled most of the street which was covered with bunting and flags.

Having sold more than 300 tickets for the event before it had even began, one of the committee members who organised the day, Rosemary Badham said she was happy with the turnout.

She said: “I’ve been one of the main organisers with a very good committee. We started organising it in March and everybody has been amazing.

“Decorating the road. It is a good road for that. They really step up.

“We started an event on Facebook. We charged for ticket entry which was £2 for all of the adults and children were free.”

The surplus money is now due to be donated to Solent Mind.

Rosemary added: “We wanted it to be a memorable evening for the children. It was quite a lot of leg work, putting things through doors. But we’ve got to at least 400 people here. More than last time.”

Activities on offer included tombola, a children’s fishing game, crafts, pebble painting, splat the rat, guess the combined age of the band, pin the tail on the donkey face painting and a cake stall.

One attendee told the Echo: “This is the third time we’ve done this and the weather has been beneficial.”

Meanwhile another said: “It’s amazing the number of people here.”

A third resident added: “I have lived here 12 years. I think it's good.”

Among those in the band were people who live on the street.

Children also enjoyed the event, running up and down the road, playing and having fun.
